Can You Keep a secret?

By Bob Garner

The art of magic dates back thousands of years ago. Some of the earliest known magicians were shamans. Shamans were the members of the tribe who were held in the highest esteem, because they were believed to have the power to communicate with both worlds –the world of the living and the world of the unknown.

Their air of secrecy as to “how they did the things that they did” provided them with not only security for their personal life, but also confidence and power. They were viewed by the rest of their tribe with awe.

Relating to your desires and dreams, you can achieve a level of mystique by not telling other people about them. As soon as you tell others what you are planning to do and/or the details behind your plan – you lose your power, air of mystique.

When you tell others about your dreams and aspirations, you open yourself up to their thoughts and opinions - many of which may be negative, cynical and/or critical. You don’t need others’ negativity nor do you necessarily need their opinion or permission.

Challenge: When you know what your goal is and have developed a plan of action, try to keep this information to yourself.  If have one or two close friends/relatives whom you know are always “on your side,” you may share your thoughts with them; however, for the majority of the people that you know…let your actions speak louder than your words.

As Confucius once said, “Silence is a friend who will never betray you.”
